REGENT of Morowali, H Anwar Hafid appealed to all levels of society from children to adults to increase reading interest. It was delivered during a speech in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of Library in the Multipurpose Building District Menui Island, Saturday (13/05/2017).
In the event, there was also prizes distribution for the winners of story writing contest, coloring and drawing for kindergarden and elementary school level. “This event is actually very important, not seen by people, not cared about people, but this is what will open our insights and knowledge, just by reading we can go forward, there is no civilization in this world that does not start with reading” said Anwar.
To support the reading interest of the community, the local government of Morowali has utilized the mobile library, one of them is the library shipboard which has been tested in South Bungku sub-district, and will be conducted similar activities in all sub-districts both in land and in the islands.
Anwar also urged the Village Head to work through the village fund to allocate budget for the books purchasing about 5 million rupiah per year which then made a shelf in the village office and arranged in such a way. “If the five million was bought for books, it is already very much, and inviting people to read, well and neatly arranged, trying to attract the community to read” said Anwar.
Meanwhile, the Head of Library and Archive Office of Morowali district, H Nafsahu Salili is determined to carry out similar activities throughout the region to restore the reading interest of the community which is currently faded, according to the theme of anniversary “We Make the Library as a Source of Inspiration and Innovation Through Reading”. **
