INSTITUTE of State Islamic Religion (IAIN) Palu, Central Sulawesi graduated four
students from Thailand after the earthquake and tsunami hit the campus on
Thursday. The students from Thailand were Aiman
Dokhor and A-Aesoh Tanyong from the Tarbiyah
Faculty of Teacher Training, Anua Abubaka from Faculty of Sharia and Islamic
Economics, and Hanafi from Faculty of Islamic Education and Da’wah.

Of the four Thailand students, two of them successfully graduated with
the cumlaude title. They are Aiman
Dokhor with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.86
(Yudisium cumlaude). Aesoh Tanyong with GPA of 3.50 (Yudisium Cumlaude). While
his two colleagues, Anuwa Abubaka received a GPA of 3.27 or a very good
yudisium, and Hanafi a GPA of 3.27 (a very good yudisium).

Four students from Thailand started studying at IAIN Palu around
September 2014. During their studies, they lived in the student apartments
owned by IAIN Palu. Now, the students from Thailand who have not graduated,
Sanisa, Sawitri, Bunyami at the Tarbiyah Faculty of Teacher Training and
Phaison at the Faculty of Islamic Education and Da’wah.

“On behalf of the leadership and the entire academic community of
IAIN Palu, I expressed my appreciation and gratitude on the success of
graduates in completing the studies at IAIN Palu, at level one and two,”
said IAIN Palu Chancellor Prof. Sagaf S Pettalongi when delivering a speech to
the almamater .

He said the graduation ceremony took place outside the building in a
tent. But it does not reduce the value of the substance of graduation.

In addition, the psychology of academic community and those who
attended still shared deep sorrow for what happened to the befallen of Palu
City, Sigi and Donggala Regencies.

According to him, it cannot be denied that the earthquake, tsunami and
liquefaction disasters that hit Palu, Sigi and Donggala have paralyzed all the campus
activities for some time.

“About 80 percent of IAIN Palu infrastructure facilities were
destroyed by the earthquake shock and in the tsunami and were aggravated by the
post-disaster pillage,” he said.

Capitalizing on his enthusiasm to get up, he said, all academic
communities worked hand in hand to fix the ruined campus environment.

So, on November 1, the teaching and learning process and academic
services have been able to run even though they took place in the tents and
emergency classes.

In the graduation of the 2017/2018 academic year, the number of
graduation participants was 475 consisting of 59 post-graduate students,
Tarbiyah Faculty and 250 Teaching Sciences, 104 Faculty of Islamic Sharia and
Islamic Economics, Adab and Uwahuluddin Faculty of 62 people. “Hopefully,
these new scholars with the knowledge capital and expertise that have been
obtained can do the best for themselves and their families, society, nation, state
and religion,” said Sagaf Pettalongi.**
